Parks for Play
Searching for the perfect setting for a picnic, a playground for your tykes, or a horse shoes course? We’ve got it in Morton! Our local Park District offers a wide variety of parks with amenities to cater to any individual or group.
Bicycle enthusiasts will enjoy the Morton Community Bikeway. The paved 2.5-mile trail starts at the corner of Jefferson, Jackson, and Detroit streets. The trail head has parking space, a shelter, and a water fountain for trail users. The trail continues west from its starting point towards East Peoria and connects to the Fon-Du-Lac River Trail. A 0.5-mile extension along Veterans Road connects Westwood Park to the main trail. Dogs on a leash are allowed on the trail system, and “Dog Potty” stations are located along the trail route. Additional trail development is under consideration at this time.
The new Morton Aquatic Center opened during the summer of 2010. The facility has a variety of amenities for public and program use, including an eight-lane competitive pool with appropriate depth for starting blocks, a zero-depth wading pool with a built-in water playground, two medium-sized water slides, a deep end that will accommodate a 3-meter high dive and 1-meter low board, a bathhouse, permanent shade areas, turf areas for sunbathing, and Wi-Fi for Internet users.
Morton has plenty of family-friendly activities including the five-screen Morton Cinema, a roller rink, the Safari Bowling Alley, and several fitness clubs that active families will enjoy.
Traveling with a precious pup? Don’t forget a stop at our local dog park. The park, located at Oakwood Park, offers the perfect place for fido to run and play!
At Northwood Park, enjoy Morton’s 18 hole Disc Golf Course. The course is open to the public at no charge during regular park hours.
Morton Fine Arts Association
The Morton Fine Arts Association hosts a variety of live performance options throughout the year including a concert series at the Bertha Frank Performing Arts Center, located at Morton High School, and an outdoor Music in the Park series at Idlewood Park.
